We tend to assume that it is groom's duty to buy wedding bands, as the result of chivalry is not dead, right?  However the answer for this question is much more complex. The most traditional way to go about this would be the bride pays for the man's wedding ring plus a gift and the groom pays for the engagement ring and matching wedding band for the bride.
